Unfortunately, lack of training does indeed impact gynecologists' ability to treat endometriosis growths. Excision specialists are trained on how to identify visible endometriosis and the many different ways it presents. My specialist made no claims to cure my disease and I signed a release before my surgery stating I understood my endo may come back or that I may not experience relief at all. At the moment, surgery from an excision specialist is the best treatment option for patients. Statistically, the endo does come back. Part of the reason I had a hysterectomy is so that at least the excruciating periods and cramps won't return, even if other symptoms do.
