Trump Thinks Trans People Are A Threat. Are They?
What the evidence really says about those who commits violence in America.
If we allow trans people to exist, claims Trump and his administration, then what’s to stop men from dressing in women’s clothes and going into women’s spaces to harm them?
This is my favorite logical fallacy that the conservative right uses, because not only does it not support the idea that trans people are posing a risk, it actually tells us exactly who is presenting a threat: cisgender, heterosexual men.
Cishet men are the biggest risk to our health and safety. But Trump wants you to believe that trans women (people who were assigned male at birth and are now living as women) are a threat.
Let’s dive into the data: According to the Williams Institute, less than 1% of the population identifies themselves as transgender. Among this extremely small number, it was also reported that only around 35% of that number identifies themselves as trans women.
