There’s No Patriarchy Without Gender Ideology
It starts with revoking trans rights, but restoring white Christian patriarchy to power won’t stop there.
The other day I was shopping for clothes. Wandering through the women’s section, I began to feel that familiar sense of despair — the reason I often postpone clothes shopping until my wardrobe is bereft of anything suitable to wear. Nothing appealed to me, nothing felt like it fit my body or made me feel confident in myself. Looking through the clothing options made me feel insecure about my body and appearance.
I drifted into the men’s section, where I immediately found the kind of button-down shirts I was looking for along with a jacket on clearance I’d been coveting. Finding clothes that worked for me brought a feeling of ecstasy known as “gender euphoria” — a sense of profound satisfaction when you’re able to match your outward appearance with your internal gender identity. This happens when I shop men’s clothes, but because I am AFAB with feminine features, I can’t quite shake feelings of insecurity and self-consciousness when browsing men’s sections of stores.
