The thing is, student loans shouldn't be forgiven because some people "deserve" their loans forgiven and others "don't deserve" to be forgiven. They should be forgiven because they are unfair, and systematically exploitative, and unethical, and a detriment to the best possible economic future of everyone.

Although your struggle is admirable and sympathetic, your post comes across judgmental and even jealous. You should focus on the pride of having your loans paid off by 28 - that's a major accomplishment! Congratulations.

My dad had to put himself through college as a first generation student. Rather than help me through school, he wanted me to suffer like he did. Because of the choice he made, despite having the wealth to support me, I am eight years into a four year degree with no end in sight. But I chose this long path to minimize debt and make the most of the situation.

My point is, don't punish the next generation because you suffered. Use that experience to wish that yes, even those who aren't making the sacrifices you have, should have their loans forgiven too - because loans are predatory, and forgiveness is for the greater good.
