On Truth Social, American Men Dream of Restoring White Patriarchy

This is the future Trump’s most loyal supporters want desperately — and we need to pay attention.

After Trump’s return to power in January, I decided to join Truth Social to see what the man himself had to say to his most loyal followers. This isn’t my first venture into Trumplandia — I grew up among conservative Christians who embodied the kind of beliefs that Trump heralds and I spoke and wrote about it during his first presidency.

I know all about what can lead someone out of the points of view Trump pushes — but what about the reasons for digging your heels in and insisting Trump, Vance, Musk, and their ilk are America’s saviors? I joined Truth Social because I wanted a glimpse inside the world of Trump’s supporters. I wanted to understand their motivations, their concerns, their fears, their celebrations.

Research on communicating difficult subjects like science has found that meeting people with an honest desire to listen and understand their values helps you make headway with changing their minds. If you don’t understand their values and fears, you’re not going to be effective.
