I've never encountered anyone who so perfectly described my own feelings and experience.

At the same time, I don’t like to use it in public spaces because I find that people interact with that word in ways that make me feel diminished. Some will say, “Good for you! It’s about time you picked a more empowering word than childless,” implying that my very normal feelings of grief over never having become a mother are evidence of a failure of character or mental fortitude. Others will reasonably assume that I never wanted children to begin with, which erases my grief in a whole different way.
