Hi Joe,
Bible literacy should not be taught in public, government-funded schools. In America we strive to have a secular government that does not favor one religion over another. If Bible literacy must be taught, why don’t we learn about any other religious text? Either teach them all (a major waste of time) or teach none of them.
If you can’t respect the atheists, agnostics, and other religious people whose children attend a public school, then what you’re preaching is Christian dominion. Theocracy. As a free American and a believer in religious pluralism, I don’t stand for it.
If I had kids, I would be outraged if they learned about the Bible in school. If I wanted them to learn about religion, I’d encourage them to take a class on religion as an adult, or buy them a picture book about world religions, or take them to a church or synagogue or temple.
Let’s put Bible literacy back in Sunday School where it belongs, and let kids learn about things that matter in school — like math, science, history, literature, and language.
