An astute piece! I am around 5'9, which means I'm slightly taller than the average American male, and my husband is exactly the same height (if the slightest bit shorter) than me. He's just who I happened to fall in love with, and I don't care much about height. I've always thought it funny, though, that it seems like very tall men tend to end up with very short women, and tall women end up with shorter or average height men. Why is it that tall men seem drawn to short women, rather than tall women - pushing tall women toward the shorter men who could've ended up with the short women? I think about this often. Not that any of it matters - it's just a trend I find amusing. Especially since my oldest brother (a very very tall guy with a very short wife) once smugly pointed out my husband seeming shorter than me, to which I pointed out the tall men/short women trend (which he obviously falls into), leaving average height men more readily available to tall women. Just a funny observation. Since I'm bi, I often wonder if I would have ended up with a short or tall woman had I happened to fall in love with a woman instead.
